Legal Cases. More and more climate-related legal cases are going to Court, brought by organizations such as Client Earth and Good Law project, as well as by some smaller groups and individuals. Following the successful case of the Swiss Grandmothers in 2024, and, before that, Dutch Urgenda 2019, other groups are taking the law into their own hands, but in the usual sense of the word. Mums for Lungs (www.mumsforlungs.org) are now going to Court because of the damage done to their children by breathing in car fumes (car sales, by the way, form part of basis for measuring Gross National Product). Read more about the case here. Air pollution is with us; climate change is a public health issue.

On our website (www.ourgrandchildrensclimate.org) we now have a section called JUST ONE THING (the title is taken from the late Michael Mosley’s hugely popular programmes on looking after our health), which focuses on one action we can all take to improve the climate. This month we’re looking at BANKING. See how your own bank is doing, compared with others: Click here. Also, here are some suggestions about alternative banks, and how to switch to them.

OUR GRANDCHILDREN'S CLIMATE. NEWSLETTER No 3 OCTOBER 2025

PLEASE HELP: OGC is trying to expand, but we need help from our members in sharing some of the tasks that need doing in order to be more effective. Can you join us, even if only in a small way? Please get in touch.

Some of us joined a Rosebank protest in London on 18th October. Six reasons to object to Rosebank:

1. Rosebank would bust UK climate goals;

2. It won’t lower energy bills or make energy supply more secure;

3. The UK public would bear the costs of developing Rosebank;

4. Some profits would go to supporting illegal Israeli settlements;

5. Rosebank won’t solve the decline of jobs in the North Sea;

6. Rosebank is next to a marine protected area and threatens

endangered species. More here: Join the fight to #StopRosebank

At our October meeting Chris Gorrell-Barnes gave an inspiring talk about the oceans. The documentary End of the Line: The Destruction of our Seas, illustrates some of the points he was making about fishing: https://youtu.be/Jmi4MGmKpn4?si=n0beoK9f4bbuCWgp.

10th to 21st November: The UN Climate Summit (COP 30).

On Saturday 15th November there will be a Global Day of Action, a date chosen to coincide with COP30 in Brazil. Climate protests will be taking place around the world. In the UK, there will be events (most of them just before, at, or just after midday) in major cities demanding climate justice - currently there are plans for events in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Southampton, Brighton and Plymouth.

GRANDPARENTS OVERSEAS: Last month we mentioned Canadian and US climate grandparents’ groups. This month we’re pleased to have made links with an Irish Group at The National Trust for Ireland ( www.antaisce.org), where one of its members is working at starting a group similar to our own, including - like ourselves - becoming a member of European Grandparents for Climate (www.grandparentsforclimate.eu)
